VINCE YOUNG

A 6 on the what? Wonderlic? What the? What is that? I know it's some sort of test that measures an athlete's intelligence but come on, I mean, how smart does a quarterback really need to be? I know football's pretty complicated stuff, but that's why you have fat old guys up in the booths observing the field and devising plays for the QB to execute. That's why the QB has a receiver in his helmet. That's why you have a gazillion coaches for each position. Players make plays that their coordinators tell them to make. That's what it boils down to. When plays break down, QB's improvise, relying on instinct not intellect. But whatever, we all know what this is really about.
Homeboy put on a SHOW at the Rose Bowl and singlehandedly won the game for the Longhorns. When plays broke down, he made some creative choices that advanced the ball more times than not. I don't remember seeing VY pull out the ol' abacus and slide beads up and down as the linebackers chased after him. All I remember was watching VY run, score, and beat SC. He outplayed Leinart, Bush, and White. If that performance didn't say "I'm the shit draft me #1" then it must be true: NFL personnel---coaches, GMs, owners, media---still hate on the black QB. As if the success of Moon, Cunningham, Culpepper, McNabb, McNair, etc. weren't enough to convince folks that blacks can make excellent QBs. Sure, VY has stoked suspicion by not working out at the combines, but come on, this is absurd. Also, athletes are allowed to and routinely retake the test and VY scored a respectable 16 the seccond time, higher than what Marino scored in his day. But of course, only the unsubstantiated score of 6 on the first go around makes the headlines.

ALEX
